Why was the Lufeiya electric tricycle stopped at the UK border?

A three-wheeled electric cycle branded Lufeiya never reached shop shelves in Britain. Border officials rejected the entire shipment after finding a charger that cannot legally be sold in the UK.

The plug that broke the rules

The Lufeiya tricycle ships with a 48 V 3 A charger fitted with a two-pin plug. A two-pin plug cannot hold a fuse. British standard BS 1363 demands a fused plug for mains appliances. Without the fuse, a fault or overcurrent has no built-in barrier to stop the cable from overheating. The Office for Product Safety and Standards rates the resulting fire risk as serious.

What the paperwork lacked

No Declaration of Conformity came with it. The instruction manual and markings fell short of legal requirements. User documentation also failed to meet the rules. The product fails both the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and the Plugs & Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994. How many units were already in private hands is not stated in the notice.

Identifiers

Two codes appear on the official record: ZYGJ00326020300210 and 66020260203001-5. The charger label reads 48V3A. Country of origin is listed as China.

What happened at the border

The shipment never cleared customs. The measure recorded is "Import rejected at border". That means the consignment was turned back before it entered the UK market. No recall of consumer units was announced because the report says the goods never cleared customs. The notification number is 2606-0269, filed on 17 August 2026 by a Local Authority Trading Standards team.

What this means for buyers

Anyone who somehow acquired one of these tricycles — through a private import or a third-party marketplace — is using a charger that does not meet UK plug law. A gift could also carry the same charger. The document does not describe any incidents or injuries. It only states the technical reasons the import was blocked.
