Why was the V20 PRO electric bike stopped and destroyed at the UK border?

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards has published a safety report on the V20 PRO electric bike. The product was intercepted at the border and destroyed because it had not passed the required UK conformity checks.

The bike that never reached the shelf

The V20 PRO is an electric bike with a wall plug and power adapter. It carries the model identifier DESDS21 and a two‑pin plug marked NF‑004. The country of origin listed in the report is China.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards issued the report on 17 August 2026. The alert type is a product safety report. The risk level is marked serious.

Why the fire risk was judged serious

The bike and its components had not been assessed using the relevant UK conformity assessment procedures. There was no technical documentation or evidence of production control. The report also flags a risk of foreseeable misuse because the product lacks warnings and instructions, including those relating to the use of personal protective equipment. The plug supplied with the bike does not conform to BS 1363. It has no fuse link. A fuse link is required to ensure safe operation under fault conditions. Its absence could lead to the plug overheating or exploding.

Regulatory gaps

The product does not meet the requirements of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. It also fails the Plugs and Sockets etc (Safety) Regulations 1994. The corrective action recorded is import rejected at the border and destroyed. The notification number is 2510‑0139. The case was notified by a Local Authority Trading Standards team.

What this means for a buyer

If a unit somehow reached a consumer, it would have no verified safety assessment and no compliant plug. The report does not state how many units may have entered the market before the border stop. It does not mention any injuries or fires linked to the bike. The only documented outcome is that the shipment was destroyed at the border.
