Why Is FERC Asking for Comments Again on the CIP-014-3 Data Collection?
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission published a notice extending the comment period for information collection FERC-725U. The document contains no changes to reporting requirements for transmission owners and operators.
The Notice Is a Paperwork Reduction Act Requirement
The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 forces every federal agency to ask the public whether its data collections are still necessary. FERC submitted a request to the Office of Management and Budget for a three-year renewal of the already-approved collection FERC-725U. OMB control number 1902-0274. The previous comment window closed July 27, 2026. Zero comments arrived.
It is routine paperwork.
The new notice appeared August 19, 2026. Comments are due September 18, 2026 — thirty days from publication. This is not a new rule.
