Why did SHEIN recall a teething toy that looks harmless?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a recall for about 644 Pull & Chew Montessori Teething Toys sold under the SHEIN brand. The silicone strings on these toys are thinner and longer than federal rules allow, so they can slide to the back of a child's throat and block the airway.

A silicone toy with four colored strings
The Pull & Chew Montessori Teething Toy is a single piece of silicone molded in green, pink, yellow, or blue. Four strings extend from the main body, each in a different color. The whole thing ships in a clear and white plastic pouch. "BABY PRODUCTS" and "Crafted in Gentle Care" are printed on the front. A product SKU — sa25092843915310553, sa2404237092800828, or sa251115653050553503 — appears on the same side. The manufacturer's name, address, production date, and batch code cover both front and back.
Why the strings fail the test
Federal rules for toys set strict limits on the size and length of any cord or string attached to products meant for children under three. The recalled toys fail both measurements. The silicone strings are thinner than the minimum diameter allowed. They are also longer than the maximum length permitted. Together, those two deviations mean a string can slide past the gag reflex and settle in the airway. The CPSC notice describes the result as a risk of respiratory distress and a deadly choking hazard. No injuries have been reported. The toys appeared on two major platforms. Amazon.com listed them from October 2022 through May 2026 at about $21 each. SHEIN.com carried them from December 2025 through April 2026 at about $10 each. The importer of record is SHEIN Distribution Corporation, based in Los Angeles, California. The manufacturer is Hefei Hanchan Network Technology Co., Ltd., doing business as Colerinsec, located in China. All units were made in China. The recall was published on September 17, 2026, under recall number 26-782.
What to do if you own one
Stop using the toy immediately. Take it away from any child. Contact SHEIN for a refund. The company asks consumers to cut the silicone strings, photograph the destroyed toy, and email the image to productrecall@shein.com. After that, dispose of the pieces. A toll-free line — 833-853-8668 — operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. The same information appears online at the SHEIN website under "Product Recalls" at the bottom of the homepage.
The notice does not say how many are still in homes
About 644 units entered the U.S. market. How many were actually sold, how many sit in warehouses, and how many are already in children's mouths — the recall notice does not say. The remedy requires destroying the toy before a refund is issued. That step is simple but permanent. Parents who bought the toy on Amazon years ago may not realize it is the same product recalled now.
