Why are 1,738 hair dryer brushes recalled for electrocution, smoking, and fire risks?

The CPSC announced a recall of DHASUWT hair dryer brushes sold on Amazon. The devices lack a required safety feature that prevents electrocution if they fall into water while plugged in, and they have also smoked or caught fire in ten reported incidents.

The missing component that triggers the recall

A hair dryer brush combines a paddle brush with hot airflow. You hold it like a brush. It dries and styles at the same time. The recalled model carries the number XR-8801. Its housing is black with pink accents. The packaging shows the brand XRUI. Three heat settings sit on the handle.

Federal regulations require an integrated immersion protection device. This component cuts power instantly if the appliance contacts water while energized. The DHASUWT units do not have it. Without that device, a brush dropped into a sink or bathtub while plugged in can deliver a lethal current. The hazard exists even if the switch is off. The plug remains live.

Ten reports of smoke and fire

The recall notice documents ten incidents. The brushes smoked or caught fire during use. No injuries were reported.

The refund requires destruction

Owners must unplug the brush immediately. Stop using it. Contact Junkins at DHASUWT_recall@163.com for a full refund. The company will ask you to cut the power cord. Then send a photo of the destroyed unit. Only after that step does the refund process begin.

What the standard actually demands

The immersion protection device is not optional. It is a mandatory element of the CPSC rule for hand-held dryers. The device typically uses a ground-fault interrupter built into the plug or the appliance body. It detects current leakage to water in milliseconds. The DHASUWT design omitted this entirely. That omission makes every unit non-compliant from the factory floor.

About 1,738 units entered the U.S. market. They sold exclusively on Amazon. The sales window ran from October 2024 through June 2026. The price hovered around $27. The manufacturer is Shenzhen Weihua Chenyu Technology Co., Ltd, doing business as Junkins. Production took place in China.

This recall carries number 26-750. It follows the Fast Track procedure. A related recall covers Wantefully hair dryer brushes for similar violations. The CPSC warns that federal law prohibits selling recalled products. Amazon has been notified. The listing should be removed. Units already in homes remain the primary concern.

The notice does not state how many brushes remain in active use. It does not describe the internal wiring differences between this model and compliant ones. The manufacturer has not issued a public statement beyond the recall contact email.
