Why does a Diall site connector recall tell you to pull the plug, not just switch it off?

A blue industrial plug sold at B&Q has been recalled. The recall covers both the male connector and the female socket.

The marking that points the wrong way

The hazard is not a loose screw or a cracked housing. The live and neutral connection markings are reversed. That means the letter stamped beside the terminal that should carry live current actually points to the neutral terminal, and vice versa. An installer who follows the markings wires the connector backwards. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016.

What reversed markings do to a circuit

When live and neutral are swapped at a connector, the appliance downstream still receives power. The switch on the appliance now interrupts the neutral conductor instead of the live one. Internal parts remain live even when the appliance appears off. A fault to earth on the supposedly neutral side becomes a direct path for fault current. Overheating and fire become possible. The notice lists electric shock and overheating. Fire is also listed.

Nine batch codes are named: 25W0803, 25W1203, 25W1603, 25W3601, 25W4001, 25W4801, 25W5301, 26W1101, 26W2801.

Two barcodes appear on the packaging: 5052931116324 and 5052931116331. The items were sold between March 2025 and August 2026. Country of origin is China. The brand is Diall. The manufacturer is Kingfisher International Products Limited.

Why switching off at the wall is not enough

The recall instructs owners to disconnect the product fully from the electricity supply. Switching it off at the wall is not sufficient. The plug must be removed from the socket. If the product is permanently wired, the circuit must be isolated at the consumer unit. The reason is the same reversed marking: with the plug still inserted, the neutral pin of the connector can carry live potential relative to earth. Removing the plug breaks that path.

Return and refund

Owners should return the item to the nearest B&Q store for a refund. The PSD notification number is 2609-0064. The alert was published on 15 September 2026 by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, notified by Local Authority Trading Standards. The notice does not state how many units remain in use or whether any injuries have been reported.
