Why were 2,798 packs of LED tea lights recalled from Amazon?

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of JINHEZO Mini Waterproof LED Tea Lights on August 20, 2026. About 2,798 units sold on Amazon between March 2024 and July 2026 violate federal safety standards for button cell batteries.

The tea lights sit in a clear plastic circle about one inch across. A white base holds two coin-cell batteries that power a tiny LED. Each light measures 1.14 inches tall.

Each pack contains twenty-four lights and forty-eight batteries. The importer, Shenzhen Jinhe Trade Co. Ltd. doing business as Mystic ZO, shipped them from China. Amazon listed them from March 2024 through July 2026 at sixteen to twenty dollars per pack. About 2,798 packs entered the U.S. market.

The battery compartment opens without a tool

Federal rules require that button batteries stay locked inside a product. A child should not be able to reach them without a screwdriver or similar tool. These tea lights fail that test. The compartment opens by hand. Reese's Law made this requirement mandatory and also demands warning labels on the package and on the product itself. Neither label appears on the JINHEZO lights. The notice states the violation plainly. No tool needed. No warning present.

What happens when a battery is swallowed

A coin cell lodged in a child's esophagus generates an electrical current. That current hydrolyzes tissue fluid into sodium hydroxide. The chemical burn begins within two hours. Perforation and fistula can follow. Death can follow. No injuries have been reported for this specific product. The hazard remains real.

The refund process requires a photo in the trash

Owners must stop using the lights immediately. To claim a refund, they email their order number or barcode number to jinhemaoyi2016@sina.com. A photograph of the lights sitting in a trash can must accompany the email. The notice adds that button cell batteries are hazardous and should be disposed of or recycled according to local hazardous waste procedures. It does not say whether Mystic ZO provides a prepaid shipping label or covers disposal costs. The burden falls on the buyer.

Sales were limited to Amazon's marketplace

About 2,798 packs passed through Amazon. The notice does not mention sales through other retailers or the importer's own website. It also does not state how many packs remain in homes versus sitting in warehouses. Recall number 26-713. Consumers with questions can contact Mystic ZO at the email address above.
