Why was the XINZHIZHU 42V 2A charger pulled from Amazon?

A black charger for electric scooters and hoverboards has been removed from Amazon. The UK product safety regulator says it can start a fire.

The plug that does not fit

The Office for Product Safety and Standards published a product safety report on 4 September 2026. The alert carries notification number 2607-0246 and rates the risk as serious.

The charger carries the brand name XINZHIZHU and the model designation 42V 2A. It was listed on Amazon under the name XINZHIZHU 42V 2A Electric Scooter Charger Hoverboard Charger UK 3 Pin Plug Adapter for Segway Hoverboard Mobility Scooter Electric Bike Self-Balancing Two Wheel Drifting Board LED Charging Indicator 2M. The Amazon ASIN is B0GZ296BF4. Another identifier printed on the packaging is X002KTQ6FP. The country of origin is China.

The hazard description focuses on two separate failures. First the plug face does not meet the dimensional requirements of BS 1363. That standard governs the size and shape of the three pins that go into a UK mains socket. When the pins are even slightly out of specification they cannot make a secure connection. The contact area shrinks. Resistance at the junction rises. Heat builds up exactly where the plug meets the socket.

Why the fuse cannot save you

The second failure sits inside the plug. The supplied fuse is considered counterfeit and does not have a ballast. A compliant correctly rated fuse contains a calibrated element that melts at a known current. The ballast material controls the arc when the element blows. Without it the fuse can fail to interrupt the circuit. Current keeps flowing. The charger continues to draw power under fault conditions. The housing overheats. Plastic chars. Flame appears.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. It also fails the Plugs & Sockets etc (Safety) Regulations 1994. Both pieces of legislation require that a plug fitted to an appliance sold in the UK conforms to BS 1363 and carries a genuine fuse.

What the marketplace did

Amazon removed the listing. The corrective action recorded in the report is removal of the listing by the online marketplace. No recall notice from the manufacturer appears in the document. The regulator recommends that owners stop using this product immediately and contact the seller to request redress.

The notification was made by a Local Authority Trading Standards team. That means a local enforcement officer examined the charger, measured the plug pins, tested the fuse, and referred the finding to the national database.

What this means for the charger in your hallway

If you bought a black 42V charger with a UK three pin plug for an electric scooter hoverboard or e-bike and the Amazon order shows ASIN B0GZ296BF4 or identifier X002KTQ6FP you have the exact unit described in the report. The plug feels loose in the socket. The charger runs warmer than expected. The fuse looks ordinary but it has not been verified by any approved body.

Stop using it. Unplug it. Contact the seller through the Amazon messaging system and ask for a refund or replacement that carries a genuine BS 1363 plug and a compliant fuse. The regulator does not say how many units were sold. It does not say whether any fires have already been reported. It says the risk is serious and the listing is gone.
