What new study tools did Google just add to Search?
Google Search has new study tools. They appear right in the results page and in a dedicated AI Mode.
A new school year starts with a updated set of learning features inside Google Search. The page no longer just returns links. It now builds interactive models, writes quizzes, reads photos of your work, organizes notes, and assembles study guides.
Interactive visuals appear in AI Overview
Type "ph scale" into the search bar. An interactive graphic loads inside the AI Overview. Slide the marker to see where common substances sit. Ask for citrus fruits on the pH scale. AI Mode builds a custom simulation for that specific question. The generative UI capability has launched globally in English inside AI Mode. It has also started rolling out in AI Overviews. No separate app is required. The tool lives in the same search box you already use.
Practice quizzes cover nine exams
Search now assembles practice quizzes for any subject. Science and math are supported. Humanities and foreign languages are also supported. Standardized exams get dedicated question banks. ACT and AP are covered. ENEM and GRE are included. JEE and LSAT have banks too. MCAT and NEET are available. SAT rounds out the list. The Princeton Review and Careers360 supply content. PhysicsWallah and Akira Enem do as well. Each answer comes with an explanation and a link to learn more. Practice quizzes are globally available in English free of charge. They work in both AI Overviews and AI Mode.
Lens reads your handwritten problems
Tap the camera icon in the Google app on Android or iOS. Snap a photo of the problem you are stuck on. An AI Overview explains the concept. It pinpoints where the solution went wrong. It coaches you through the next step. Follow-up questions keep the conversation going in AI Mode while you explore related sites. This experience will roll out globally in English over the coming weeks.
Notebooks move into AI Mode
Gemini Notebook used to live in a separate product. Now it appears inside AI Mode. Create a notebook for each class. Drop in slides and syllabi. Web articles and previous AI Mode threads work too. Ask questions across all sources at once. Build on ideas over time without switching tabs. Existing notebooks from Gemini Notebook or the Gemini app appear automatically. They sync sources and instructions across Google products. Rollout begins over the coming days across more than 180 countries in English. The European Economic Area is excluded for now. Local language support will follow in the weeks ahead.
Custom files turn notes into study guides
Upload a photo of handwritten notes along with lecture slides. Ask for a one-page summary of key concepts. Search returns a ready-to-use document. Custom file creation in AI Mode has rolled out globally in English. It will come soon to AI Overviews. Supported formats include documents and slide presentations. Spreadsheets and text files are also supported. More formats will arrive later.
The announcement does not say how many students already use these features. It does not specify whether quiz difficulty adapts to performance. The rollout timeline for non-English languages remains vague beyond "weeks ahead."
