What does Samsung's Tizen 10.0 update actually change for your fridge and washer?

Samsung is rolling out a major software update to select refrigerators and laundry machines starting September 2026. The update brings Tizen OS 10.0 to appliances released as far back as 2021, adding AI features that previously only existed on 2026 models.

Which appliances qualify and when the rollout starts

The update targets two product families.

Refrigerators with built-in cameras and AI Vision include 21.5-inch and 32-inch Family Hub models released between 2021 and 2025. Select 9-inch Family Hub models from 2025 also qualify.

Laundry appliances cover Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, Washer, and Dryer models released in 2024 and 2025.

Phased rollout begins in September 2026. The appliance screen will alert the user when an update is ready.

Refrigerator side: Gemini-powered vision and daily briefings

The headline change for refrigerators is AI Vision rebuilt on Google Gemini. The system now recognizes a much wider range of fresh and packaged foods. Branded items are included. Region-specific items are included. That means the camera inside the fridge can identify more of what you actually buy, not just generic categories.

Two screen-based experiences arrive with the update. Now Brief serves personalized information on the display. What's for Today? helps simplify meal decisions on a daily basis. Both rely on the expanded food recognition to be useful.

A Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung, Google, or Microsoft account are required. Users must be 18 or older. Some functions need additional app settings. Features or results vary by subscription.

Laundry side: Bixby voice and a simpler screen

These machines receive Bixby, Samsung's IoT voice assistant. Bixby enhances voice recognition and enables more natural interactions. A user can ask, "When will my laundry be finished?" and hear a reply such as, "Your laundry is set to finish in two hours and 25 minutes."

Bixby recognizes certain accents and dialects of English (India), English (UK), English (US), French (France), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Korean (South Korea), Mandarin Chinese (China), Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain), and Spanish (Latin America).

Service availability varies by country. Responses in the announcement are examples; actual responses vary.

A refreshed interface also arrives, aligned with Samsung's latest laundry experience on models equipped with 7-inch Smart Screens. Easy Mode streamlines the screen layout and simplifies key information in an easy-to-access format. It can be selected through the device's Smart Screen under Settings > Display > Control Theme menu.

Where the promise stops

The announcement gives no guarantee that every feature reaches every qualifying model in every market. Timelines, features, and availability are subject to change without notice.

Google Gemini is provided by Google LLC. Its service availability, supported functions, and accuracy vary by country, language, device model. OS or One UI version also affects availability.

Availability of certain apps varies by country, region, service provider, network environment, or device and may change without notice.

How many eligible appliances are still in active use is not disclosed. Whether older hardware can sustain the new AI workloads over time is not addressed. The update is a software layer. It cannot add cameras, screens, or sensors that the original product lacks.
