What happens when a washing machine cuts energy use by seventy percent below the class limit?

Samsung showed two new Bespoke AI washers at IFA 2026 in Berlin. One uses seventy percent less energy than the minimum for a European Class A rating. The other fits a thirteen kilogram drum inside a standard six hundred millimeter depth.

The efficiency milestone: seventy percent below Class A

The ten kilogram model carries an A-70% label. That figure means the machine consumes up to seventy percent less electricity than the lowest threshold allowed for Class A under European Regulation (EU) No 2019/2014. Internal testing puts the Energy Efficiency Index at 15.5, which translates to 15.3 kilowatt hours per one hundred cycles. The Class A floor for a ten kilogram washer sits at EEI 52. Samsung reached this number by improving motor efficiency, thermal management, and wash-cycle design together. Capacity grew from nine to ten kilograms at the same time. The previous A-65% model introduced at IFA 2025 held nine kilograms. The A-55% model appeared at IFA 2024. Each step pushed the boundary further.

Thirteen kilograms in a standard cabinet depth

The second washer targets a different constraint. European kitchens and utility rooms limit appliance depth to six hundred millimeters. SpaceMax™ technology reshapes the internal architecture so a larger drum fits without widening the cabinet. The external footprint stays at twenty four inches. A mono-body construction creates a single unified shell. A slim front frame sharpens the silhouette. Refined colors, materials, and finishes keep the appearance clean. At the center sits a large touch display visually merged with the detergent drawer. From there users select cycles, reach connected features, and call up personalized laundry services through SmartThings. The app requires a Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account. It runs on Android and iOS devices.

The shared features: door, display, and connectivity

Both machines include Auto Open Door. When a cycle ends the door unlatches gradually. Residual moisture escapes. The drum interior stays fresher between loads. The touch interface on each model blends into the detergent compartment. Cycle controls, connected features, and SmartThings services all live on that surface. SmartThings links the washer to the wider home network. Personalized laundry services become accessible from the same screen. No separate hub is needed.

Development models, not store shelves

The units shown at IFA 2026 are development-stage display models. Specifications are subject to change. Commercial availability has not been set. Final testing will occur before EPREL registration. Results vary depending on the usage environment. Energy ratings were measured with the Eco 40–60 program. How many of these will reach retailers and when remains undisclosed.
