What does Samsung's 2027 Odyssey lineup change for monitor buyers?
Samsung announced four new Odyssey gaming monitors at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne. The lineup spans 27 to 49 inches and introduces refresh rates up to 1,100 Hz alongside new panel structures and display modes.
Four monitors, four world-first claims
Samsung Electronics presented the 2027 Odyssey series during a dedicated session at Gamescom 2026, which runs from August 26 to 30 in Cologne, Germany. Four models were shown, each carrying a "world's first" label attached to a specific combination of size, curvature, or refresh rate. The Odyssey OLED G9 (model G95SJ) is a 49-inch dual-QHD monitor with a 360 Hz refresh rate. The Odyssey OLED G8 (model G80SJ) is a 32-inch 4K panel that can also run at 520 Hz in QHD and 680 Hz in FHD. The Odyssey OLED G7 (model G75SJ) is a 42-inch 16:9 curved OLED with 1000R curvature and a 165 Hz refresh rate. The Odyssey G6 (model G60H) is a 27-inch Fast IPS panel rated for 1,100 Hz in HD resolution and 600 Hz in QHD.
Panel architecture
The three OLED models share a fifth-generation QD-OLED panel branded Penta Tandem. Samsung describes a five-layer stack that is up to 1.3 times more efficient than the previous generation and offers up to twice the lifetime. The RGB Stripe sub-pixel layout replaces the triangular arrangement used in earlier QD-OLED panels, reducing color fringing and improving text clarity. Peak brightness for the G9 reaches 1,300 nits on a 3 percent window at 4K resolution. The G8 carries VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 600 certification, though certification will be completed at product launch. The G7 uses the same Glare Free film found on the G8, which Samsung says is 54 percent less glossy than conventional anti-reflection film. Its 1000R curvature gives a screen area approximately 72 percent larger than the previous 32-inch Odyssey model.
Speed modes and what they trade
Dual Mode on the G9 lets a player choose between dual-QHD at 360 Hz or dual-HD at up to 720 Hz. The G8 offers Triple Mode: UHD at 360 Hz, QHD at 520 Hz, or FHD at 680 Hz. The G6 uses Dual Mode as well: HD at up to 1,100 Hz or QHD at up to 600 Hz. Each step up in refresh rate drops resolution. The mechanism is a scaler inside the monitor that combines or subdivides pixels to hit the higher rates.
Speed wins.
The G6 uses a Fast IPS panel with a 1 ms response time. The three OLED models quote a 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time. All four monitors support variable refresh rate. The G8 lists AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support, with certification also pending at launch. Connectivity on the G8 includes one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20, two HDMI ports, one USB-C port with 98 W power delivery, a two-port USB hub, and KVM switching.
HDR and 3D features
A partnership with Activision Blizzard brings HDR10+ GAMING into the development pipeline for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The technology aims to make color and contrast on compatible Odyssey monitors match the creative intent of each game. Samsung plans to expand the HDR10+ GAMING ecosystem to more than 20 AAA titles by the first half of 2027. Odyssey 3D support is also expanding. New titles demonstrated on stage include Cyberpunk 2077 and Cronos: The New Dawn. The feature adds depth and spatial perspective through direct collaboration with game studios. The announcement does not specify how many existing Odyssey models will receive 3D support via firmware.
Availability
It will be available globally in the second half of 2026. Launch timing and pricing for the three OLED models will be announced later and will vary by market. Samsung cites IDC data showing it has been the number one gaming monitor brand by value for seven consecutive years from 2019 to 2025. The announcement does not state how many units of the previous generation remain in the channel or whether the new models replace or supplement current SKUs.
