What changes for app prices when Morocco adds VAT and Tanzania raises digital tax?
Apple has updated tax rules and prices for apps and in-app purchases across 175 storefronts. The changes take effect on August 27 for taxes and September 14 for prices.
Apple adjusts proceeds and prices when tax laws shift or exchange rates move. The company uses publicly available rate data from sources such as The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg to keep prices consistent across 43 currencies.
Three countries see new or higher taxes on August 27
Morocco introduces a 20% value‑added tax. The Republic of the Congo introduces an 18% VAT. Tanzania raises its digital sales tax from 2% to 3%. These changes modify what developers receive from eligible apps and in‑app purchases in those markets. Exhibit B of the Paid Applications Agreement will be updated to show that Apple collects and remits the applicable taxes in Morocco and the Republic of the Congo. Taxes change.
Price equalization follows on September 14
Pricing for apps and in‑app purchases will be updated for Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, and the Republic of the Congo. The updates account for the VAT introductions listed above. If a developer has selected one of these four storefronts as the base storefront, prices on that storefront stay the same. On other storefronts, prices shift to maintain equalization with the chosen base price. Auto‑renewable subscriptions are excluded from the price updates. Storefronts where a developer manually manages prices instead of using automated equalized prices also see no change. The Pricing and Availability section in App Store Connect now displays the upcoming changes. Developers can change prices of apps, in‑app purchases, and auto‑renewable subscriptions at any time. Translations of the updated agreement will appear on the Apple Developer website within one month.
