What changes for Korean App Store age ratings now and in October 2026?
Apple updated how age ratings work for games and entertainment apps in South Korea. One change takes effect immediately, another arrives in October 2026.
Override with an official GRAC rating
Starting August 12, 2026, developers whose app already holds a rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee can replace the App Store age rating for Korea. The override works by submitting the GRAC Rating Classification Number with the next app version. Once provided, the app can display any of the four region-specific ratings: All, 12+, 15+, or 19+.
The questionnaire in App Store Connect still generates a rating automatically. The new path exists only for apps that have gone through the GRAC process. No other categories are mentioned in the announcement.
Changes to descriptors this fall
Beginning October 2026, two content descriptors will no longer sit under the All rating for the Korean App Store. They move to 12+:
- Infrequent profanity and crude humor
- Infrequent mature or suggestive themes
Apps that currently carry either descriptor and show an All rating in Korea will need to reflect the higher rating after the change takes effect. The announcement does not say whether Apple will adjust those ratings automatically or require a new submission.
What developers need to submit
To use the override, the next version submission must include the GRAC Rating Classification Number. The announcement links to a guide on how to provide it. No other documents or steps are listed. The October descriptor change applies regardless of whether a developer uses the override.
