What the toy actually is

Each box holds 32 finger lights. Colors include red orange blue black purple clear green and yellow. The front label shows eight space patterns such as astronauts rockets UFO galaxy and solar systems. Inside every unit sit three button cell batteries. The light projects the pattern onto a nearby surface when switched on.

How the battery compartment fails the standard

Federal rules require that button cell compartments in toys resist opening by children. These units do not meet that rule. The compartment can be accessed without a tool. A child who pulls the light apart can free the batteries. Swallowed button cells generate hydroxide at the negative pole. That chemical burns through esophageal tissue in as little as two hours. The recall notice states that ingestion can cause serious injury internal chemical burns and death.

What the recall asks you to do

Stop using the lights immediately. Email a photograph that shows the product in the trash to bamamonproductrecall@outlook.com. The manufacturer Shenzhen Maiduoduo Trading Technology Co. Ltd. doing business as Bamamon will issue a refund. The notice
