Why do the doors on this Gourmia air fryer oven snap shut on your hand?

About 175,951 Gourmia 9-Slice Digital Air Fryer Ovens have been recalled because their spring-loaded French doors can close unexpectedly when bumped. The defect has already caused 40 burns to hands and wrists while people were retrieving hot food.

Spring-loaded French doors are the core of the problem

The recalled oven is a stainless-steel countertop unit with two glass front doors that open outward like French doors. Each door is spring-loaded so it wants to return to the closed position. Metal handles run across the top of each glass panel. When you pull a handle, the spring tension fights you. Let go or nudge the door while it is open, and the spring slams it shut in a fraction of a second. The spring wins every time.

Model GTF7530 carries UPC 810002862779 on the box. A label on the back shows the same model number plus a date-code range from 3021 to 0126.

A light bump is enough to trigger the hazard

The CPSC notice says the doors "can unexpectedly close when bumped." That wording matters. It does not take a hard shove. Reaching past an open door to grab a tray, brushing the handle with your forearm, or setting a hot pan on the counter nearby can transfer enough vibration to overcome the latch.

Fifty-seven consumers reported the doors closing on them while retrieving food. Forty of those incidents produced burns on hands or wrists.

The notice does not describe burn severity. It also does not say how many of the 175,951 units are still in active use.

The repair kit adds a physical doorstop

Gourmia's remedy is a free repair kit sent by mail. The kit contains an added doorstop and installation instructions. A doorstop is a simple mechanical block that prevents the door from traveling past the fully open position. Once installed, the spring can still pull, but the stop arrests the motion before the glass reaches your hand.

Consumers must stop using the oven immediately and contact Gourmia at 888-834-0092 or through gourmia.com/recall.asp.

Target was the sole retailer

The ovens were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com for about $150. Sales ran from October 2021 through June 2026. That five-year window matches the date-code range on the back label.

If you bought a Gourmia air fryer oven at another retailer, it is not part of this recall.

Gaps the announcement leaves open

No explanation appears for why the latch design allowed the doors to release from a minor bump. It does not say whether the doorstop is a retrofit bracket, an adhesive bumper, or a replacement hinge component. It does not state how long the repair kit takes to arrive or whether Gourmia will offer a refund as an alternative. Owners who want those details must ask the company directly.
